[VIDEO] Tesla's Outrageous Speed Of 60 MPH In 2.28 Seconds Explained

On the recent Motor Trend test, the Tesla Model S P100D with Ludicrous mode proven to run at 0-60 MPH in 2.28 seconds. The result given makes Tesla a much quicker drive compare to the 949-hp Ferrari LaFerrari considering the 5000 pounds weight of the P100D.

Based on a science investigation by a Youtube video by Engineering Explained, the Tesla's acceleration is based on three different factors; the Big Power which means 680 hp and an instantaneous electric-motor torque. Next, is all-wheel drive traction, and the superior grip. But, the main factor that showed some light on why Tesla's incredible acceleration speed was achieved.

A summary report by Popular Mechanics detailed how Jason Fenske discussed the figures proving the said Tesla acceleration. "Using a car's braking distance data, you can calculate the quickest acceleration it's capable of. This is because when a car is braking at its full capacity, the tires are utilizing their absolute maximum grip and theoretically, given infinite power output, that's the maximum grip the car can take advantage of during acceleration," says the source.

Engineering Explained used a 102-foot 60-0 MPH braking test to prove this theory. And by that test, it showed that the quickest acceleration for P100D is 2.32 seconds making Motor Trends theory slightly quicker. But Engineering Explained stated that the discrepancy can be the result of rounding assumptions. A test was also done for the Tesla Roadster, and yes, it was proven faster than the Model S equipped with P100D drivetrain and batteries if only if the Roadster manages to lighter than the Model S.
