The 2013 Ford Fusion and Fusion Hybrid received top vehicle safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration this week. The Fusion and Fusion Hybrid received a five-star Overall Vehicle Score in the NHTSA New Car Assessment Program testing, which works by combining vehicle performance in frontal and side crash tests according to a Ford press release.

The new five-star safety award from NHTSA is just one of the many awards the 2013 Fusion has won this past year. Just last month the vehicle was named a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The reason the vehicle is doing so well is mainly due to the new safety and technological advancements like new safety belts and front impact airbags that Ford engineers added in the 2013 model.

"The Fusion and Fusion Hybrid exemplify the new face of Ford vehicles and demonstrate Ford's commitment to safety in all its vehicles across the globe," said Steve Kenner, Global Director of the Ford Automotive Safety Office (ASO).

A redesigned seat-mounted side airbags are designed to deploy lower than ever before and use new venting technology at the same time. The venting technology works by considering an individual's size and varies the pressure so smaller individuals can receive a lower pressure according to Ford.

The Fusion and Fusion Hybrid also have leading fuel economy and a number of different features that enhance a driver's experience.

Interested customers have a choice between two different EcoBoost four-cylinder engines, a normal four-cylinder engine, and an automatic start stop system to turn the engine off. Front-wheel and all-wheel drive are also optional, and people can chose between an automatic and manually shifted six-speed transmission as well.

The vehicle comes equipped with Active Park Assist to help make parallel parking stress-free. All you have to do is click a button and the system then detects an available parallel parking space and automatically steers the Ford into the space. Drivers just control the gas and brake pedals.
