The GTX 1080 Ti will face stiff competition from the AMD Vega. While the 1080 Ti is expected to have marked improvements over its predecessor, it is believed that it will still fall short of what the AMD GPU can offer.

Nvidia's newest GPU is expected to go head to head with the AMD Vega. It is anticipated to have enough juice to power 4K gaming at a price projected to be lower than the Vega 10.

The GTX 1080 Ti will be based on Nvidia's "Pascal" architecture, utilizing a modified version of the Titan X's GP102 chip. It will have 12 billion transistors versus its' predecessors 7.2 billion, and 12 GB of GDDR5x memory versus its' predecessors 8 GB.

It will have 3,328 processing (CUDA) cores, which is slightly less than the Titan X. It will have a higher base clock speed than the Titan X but a lower base clock speed than the 1080. This is because the huge spike in CUDA cores will more than makeup for it.

The newest Nvidia GeForce 1080 Ti GPU is believed to have a price point anywhere from $600 to $1,200. This is based on the current GTX 1080's price point which ranges on average between $600 to $1,200, depending on the manufacturer.

AMD Vega. It was earlier reported that the AMD Vega is expected to match the performance or even exceed the Nvidia Titan X. For comparison, the Titan X has a computing speed of 11 Teraflops or (TFLOPS) whereas the 1080 Ti will be coming in at 10.8 TFLOPS. However, the 1080 Ti is still expected to have impressive gaming performance.

In addition, it has been previously reported that the new architecture of the Vega will likely have 4,096 cores clocked at between 1.5 - 1.6 GHz in 8 GB or 16 GB of HBM2 memory in two stacks. This new technology will deliver as much bandwidth as four stacks of HBM1 and will allow AMD to double or even quadruple the amount of memory they offer.

The Microsoft Xbox Project Scorpio is expected to run with both AMD Ryzen CPU and AMD Vega GPU. It has been touted as the most advanced gaming console ever released by the Redmond-based tech company. If this is true, the GTX 1080 Ti will likely be weaker than the Vega 10.

According to Trusted Reviews, the first AMD Vega could be the RX 490. This was announced by Bethesda during its Fallout 4 high-res texture pack release. In its blog post, they stated that the RX 490 and the GeForce 100 would be the minimum required graphics cards needed for this pack. It was also announced that this Vega card will have 8GB of memory.

The Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti is set to be released this year. There has been much talk about it being released at the E3 or Computex, according to PC Gamer. The AMD Vega will likely release at around the same time, as it has been confirmed to follow shortly after the AMD Ryzen which will be released at the end of the month at the earliest.
