Britney Spears decided one season of dealing with Simon Cowell was enough, as the pop-singer announced she would not be returning for a second season of "The X Factor" this week.

Sources confirmed to TVGuide.com that Spears quit the show because she knew she wasn't going to be asked back for another season. Rumors started circulating two weeks ago that Spears was going to be fired because the show's producers weren't happy with Spears and felt she didn't live up to expectations.

Spears was paid $15 million for just one season on the show.

"I thought it went very, very well," said Kevin Reilly on Spear's time with the show. "It was fraught with unknowns, and I think Britney did a very good job. People are fascinated with her and always will be. Last year the ratings were a little bit higher, but I think it was a better show this year. I think she tucked in really nicely on the bench."

Producers have stated they have at least one replacement in mind, but have yet to reveal the person's name to the press. An announcement is expected to come within the "next 10 days" or so according to TVGuide.com.

Despite her "love" for the show, another reason Spears decided to quit was to focus on her own music career. Spear's is currently working on her eighth album according to TMZ.

The pop-singer has been performing since the late 90's and has topped the Billboard charts with hits like "...Baby One More Time," "Womanizer," and "Hold It Against Me."

Spears has also appeared in movies such as "Austin Powers in Goldmember," and "Crossroads."

Fellow judge L.A. Reed also announced that he would be leaving the show after two seasons to focus on his other job as CEO and Chairman of Epic Records. Cowell and Demi Lovato are currently the only judges left for the next season of "The X Factor."

"Maybe some people were waiting for more drastic displays of some nature that never came," Reilly said according to The New York Post. "But, pound for pound, I thought 'The X Factor' was excellent this year."
