The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has listed the new Fiat 500e with an industry-best 108 MPGe highway rating according to a press release issued this week.

The EPA predicts that the new Fiat vehicle will get around 122 mpg in city driving as well, the best number compared to other EV models.

MPGe was created by the EPA to measure how many miles an EV can go using battery-generated electricity that has the "same energy content as a gallon of gasoline" according to a press release.

The EPA has also determined that the vehicle can travel around 87 miles without having to charge up again, which is better than any other similar vehicle released in the U.S.-market.

"The FIAT brand is about unique Italian style, fuel efficiency and great value. Now we have taken a page from our own playbook to change the expectations of what an electric vehicle can be," said Tim Kuniskis, Head of FIAT Brand North America in the press release.

Compared to other 2013 models, the Scion iQ EV, at 121 MPGe, and Honda Fit EV, at 118 MPGe, are the only other vehicles to have better combined highway-city driving ratings, according to the EPA website. Scion is the youth-oriented brand of Toyota Motor Corp according to Reuters.

The vehicle also achieved a perfect "10" score on two EPA scales due to its low tailpipe emissions according to RushLane.com.

The Fiat 500e will arrive at FIAT Studios in California sometime this spring, and the vehicle will be assembled in Toluca, Mexico according to Reuters.

"Our environmentally sexy Fiat 500e offers a design proposition like no other, while delivering unsurpassed MPGe and class-leading range making our 500e a serious contender in the market," said Kuniskis in the press release.
