Ford made a stunning announcement this week when they revealed the 2015 F-150 Concept truck will be on display at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. The vehicle is expected to rival the recently released 2014 GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado.

The new F-150 isn't supposed to be released to the public until Fall 2014, but Ford is hoping to convince owners of the 2011 model at the Auto Show to avoid the new Silverado and Sierra and wait for the revamped F-150.

The 2011 model was released with new engine options and a completely new look, but since its release Ford has had trouble keeping up with Silverado for truck sales. Chevy is expected to release the 2014 Silverado in the second quarter of 2013 according to Nitrobahn.com.

The new F-150 will be 750 pounds lighter than the current 2013 vehicle, due to a remodeled lightweight chassis components and aluminum bodywork according to Ford.

Ford engineers have equipped the new vehicle with a turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 engine with a new eight-speed automatic transmission.  The new engine is being produced currently by developers under the codename "Nano" according to Nitrobahn.

The company will also focus on increasing the F-150's average fuel-economy by 3 mpg. Ford has prepared to put over $2 billion into redesigning the vehicle which is expected to be a main source of profit for the company once released.

(The 2015 Ford F-150) will be a game-changer that will alter the dynamics of the truck segment," an unidentified source told egmCarTech.com. "They're shooting for best-in-class fuel economy."

The Detroit Auto Show will be held from Jan. 14 through Jan. 27 at the COBO Center. Click here for more information.
