"It's a Wonderful Life" was named the best-reviewed Christmas movie of all-time according to a survey conducted by Rotten Tomatoes. Despite being around for over 60 years, the film is still relatable and teaches lessons that people of any generation could appreciate.

The survey, which was released this week by the movie review site, determined that the 1946 classic starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed was slightly better than 1942's "Holiday Inn" which starred Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. Disney's 1993 stop-motion film "The Nightmare Before Christmas" came in at third on the list.

Rotten Tomatoes website editor in chief said to Reuters that the site analyzes film reviews and assigns a score based on total critical reception. The site applied the same formula to Christmas films for the list.

"You look at the list and it's all the classics, the cream floats to the top," Atchity said to Reuters. Atchity added that the rankings were weighted to reflect the amount of reviews a film received, which could artificially boost or decline a score.

Films from the 1960s and 1970s were completely left of the list. Atchity stated that studios were more "focused on work by big-name directors than on seasonal films at the time.

World War II drama "Stalag 17", which was released in 1953, and 1947's "Miracle on 34th Street" also made the top five of the list.

The most recent film to make the list is "Arthur Christmas" which was released in 2011.
