Twelve Chrysler Models Earn IIHS Top Safety Rating Honors For Second Consecutive Year

For the second consecutive year, 12 Chrysler vehicles have made the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety's annual list of Top Safety Picks according to a press release issued by Chrysler.

Among those vehicles, the Dodge Avenger and Chrysler 200 midsize sedan earned the new IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award.

Other Chrysler vehicles that were awarded this week include:

-Dodge Journey, Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee midsize SUVs

-Fiat 500 in the minicar category                                       

-New Dodge Dart in small car

-Jeep Patriot small SUV, when equipped with optional side air bags

-Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans

-Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger large family cars

The Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger sedans earned Top Safety Pick+ due to their performances in the new IIHS driver-side crash test that puts 25 percent of the vehicle's front end in a 40-mph collision with a five-foot barrier.

Both models come included with front-passenger air bars, front seat side air bags, and electronic stability control with electronic traction control according to Chrysler. The models also come with four-wheel anti-lock brakes and a LATCH child-seat anchor system.  

"We are honored to receive these awards," said Mark Chernoby, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President - Engineering in the press release. "Occupant safety is a key ingredient to the design and manufacture of all Chrysler Group vehicles."

The Chrysler 200 sedan, which is sold at a base price of $18,995, provides an affordable vehicle with great fuel economy and "best in class performance." The Dodge Avenger is America's most affordable mid-size sedan which sells at a base price of $18,995.

The announcement of the 2013 list affirms the company's claim that the new Dodge Dart is one of the most reliable vehicles on the market, and it's the only in its segment to feature Rear Cross Path detection.
