The AMD Zen architecture processor "Ryzen" will officially launch in early March, according to Advanced Micro Devices chief executive Lisa Su. Widespread availability will be available from day one!
Official Release Date. After months and months of speculations, CEO Lisa Su finally spilled the beans on the latest Advanced Micro Devices CPU and GPU. It looks like the company will have a very busy first and second quarter. It has recently been confirmed that the release date for the Ryzen CPU will be in March while the Vega GPU will be available in the second quarter of this year.
Su further announced that there would be widespread availability of the CPU from day one. This was a problem that hampered sales for AMD CPUs and APUs in the past. In just 4 weeks time, the world will be able to officially see the new SR3, SR5, and SR7 CPUs which a recent leak from Forbes has revealed.
The official news comes for www.Zolkorn.com which posted a table revealing that the SR3 will be available in 4-core/8-threads, the SR5 will be available in 8-core/8-threads, and the SR7 will be available in 8-core/16-threads. This move comes as a surprise to many considering that the mid-range 6-core used by Intel's Core i7-6800K and Core i7-6850K CPUs.
PCWorld further reports that Su has stated that channel vendors will be the first to receive the Zen architecture Ryzen chips, along with system integrators. More traditional hardware vendors such as Dell or HP will be expected to wait while the company caters to boutique PC vendors, the site further reports.
Su has further stated that the high-end Ryzen chips will take on Intel's highest-end core chips like the Core i5 and Core i7. While the benchmark tests of the latest AMD CPU were noteworthy, several Intel enthusiasts believed that the Ryzen chips could only compete against the Intel's Core i5 series.
Moreover, it was also confirmed that Advanced Micro Devices is already thinking about the next CPUs to follow. Su spoke about a "Zen 2" and a "Zen 3" and confirmed that the company is also working on the 7-nm technology. This aims to offset any concerns hardware partners may have about their brand being able to compete with Intel.
Additionally, Vega was revealed to ship during the second quarter of the year as well. The company also plans to launch a Zen-based APU called "Raven Ridge" which is designed primarily for notebooks but will still be available for some desktops.
The long wait is finally over and the AMD Zen CPU will arrive in just one month's time! Gamers who have long been hoping for Advanced Micro Devices' comeback are very pleased with the news.
