Kyocera Showcases Rafre, Its New Washable Smartphone, Water-Resistant

Kyocera Corporation, a Japanese company has introduced new Smartphone which could be washed on daily basis. Rafre is the washable Smartphone that features resistance to hot water and a touchscreen that could be used even when the user's hands are wet or even with gloves.

The Kyocera Rafre is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera which features AINOS Engine, which is the company's proprietary image processing built-in application. It enables users to take excellent photos in low lighting conditions. It comes with a 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory that is expandable through memory card slot up to 32 GB.

The device is supported with Phase Detection autofocus, Auto HDR and a 5-megapixel camera on the front with LED flash. Rafre comes on a high-capacity 3.000mAh non-removable battery which can last for a day. It runs on Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.

The washable phone is a certified IP68 dust and waterproof. It has a Military Standard 810G against dust, temperature, vibration, shock, humidity, salt fog, and low pressure, as well as high altitudes. It is capable of water immersion up to 30 minutes at 6 feet of depth. The device connectivity includes Bluetooth, NFC, USB port, and Wi-Fi. Other features such as wireless charging, Geo-tagging, face detection and  Kyocera's Smart Sonic Receiver speaker technology.

The washable phone is displaying a 4.5 inches diagonal HD with 720 x1280 pixels. It is also supported by a 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon octa-core processor. Furthermore, the new handset equipped with a special cooking app which allows users to scroll through recipes, answer calls and set timers with the use of hand gestures without touching the display.

Its design could be used in all types of environments without any fear of getting dirty as it could be washed by just using soap and water. It is also resistive to scratches that may come when the user is scrubbing while washing.

The Kyocera Rafre will be available from March 2017 in Japan. It offers three color option to choose from pale pink, clear white and light blue. No pricing information released yet.
