Old JDM Cars Goes Head To Head, Which Is Better? Mazda RX 7 Or Honda Civic?

Despite its age, two of the best JDM Cars went head to head for the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational. The 1985 Mazda RX-7 and 1974 Honda Civic were both modified for the race. Which of the two reigned supreme?

The Race. David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan owned first-generation 1985 Mazda RX-7 and 1974 Honda Civic, respectively. Both cleaned and applied basic maintenance to both models and started a race to Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Finnegan's car failed and was towed mid-episode, reported Motor Trend. The Civic was then worked on by Honda experts at Hasport who had a spare engine for the model. However, it was not the perfect fit that a CVCC engine was installed instead.

Although the race was supposed to measure which among the two vehicles still had the power to win an epic race between JDM cars, the Civic failed to deliver. As a result, the race did not last long enough to determine which was better.

The New Versions. In other news, Super Street Online reported that a new Mazda RX-7 version released. The FD3S-based MADBUL generation 7.3 vehicle is half RX-3 and half RX-7 which was developed with Rocket Bunny. This model has been linked to the raced RX-7 mentioned above as the brand incorporated old-school Mazda racing to its design.

The difference of the updated model to the rest of the JDM cars of the franchise is the front. It is slightly bigger and has the Rotary Engine incorporated. In fact, the original fender hockey-stick mirrors were retained but the Rotiform LHR lips and the candy red body were new to the model.

It has been 10 years that the Mazda RX-7 had been updated with Mad Mike. However, when two of the best JDM cars went out for a race, the Honda Civic failed to deliver. Although the race did not last long enough to declare a winner, the Mazda old-school import showed greater potential at winning.
