The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 1967 was most famously brought back in the 2000 movie Gone in 60 Seconds. The American car company has recently released a 2017 Mustang GT Shelby Super Snake as a 50th-anniversary tribute to the iconic muscle car.

The 1967 Shelby is the one model that trumps all the others. It is the most iconic of all of the Ford Shelby's and Carroll Shelby only built one model of it as a prototype. The original prototype and two other 1967/1967 Shelby GT500s that were tuned and made-up similarly were used as "Eleanor" in the movie.

The original prototype that was used in the movie sold for a whopping $1.3 million at a Mecum auction in 2013. A few years earlier, the other two were sold for around $200,000 and $100,000.

Over the years, Ford has continued to remake and revive the Super Snake. The most recent version was the 2015 Shelby Super Snake, which was a special edition Ford Mustang that was limited to just 300 units. This year, Ford has decided to make another one: the Shelby Super Snake 50th Anniversary Edition.

This special 50th Anniversary Edition pays tribute to the one-and-only original 1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snake. This special edition will run a total of 500 units.

It has all of the original Super Snake's trademark features. There is also a commemorative "50th Anniversary Super Snake" nameplate with an inscription of Carroll Shelby's signature atop.

There are also badges and commemorative stripes and emblems all over the car. All 500 units will also be available in all Ford factory colors. Finally, the car will have 20-inch forged aluminum wheels in either polished or black finish.

Under the hood is a 5.0-liter "Coyote" V-8 engine. Its output is up to 750 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque. It will go 0 to 60 MPH in 3.5 seconds and can do a quarter-mile in 10.9 seconds. The car is faster and more powerful than the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, and the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The muscle car has an SRP of $69,995.

The Ford Mustang GT Shelby Super Snake 2017 50th Anniversary may not have the same lasting legacy and legendary status as the original 1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snake, but it's a fantastic tribute to the original. In addition, now 499 more car owners can own the limited edition muscle car.
