Cadillac XTS Allows Drivers To Decide Gauge Cluster, First All-Digital Device Features Four Options

The new Cadillac XTS allows customers to decide many things when purchasing a vehicle, including the type of gauge cluster they want. For the new XTS, drivers will have four layout options to choose from. The company made the announcement in a press release about the four options.

"We spent time with owners of all kinds of vehicles to learn how they used the radio, navigation, phone settings, and other user connectivity features," said Scott Martin, senior creative designer in charge of building the digital cluster layouts in the press release. "Most drivers fall into one of four different categories in terms of the amount of information they want to see at any given time, so we built the XTS gauge cluster layouts to appeal to any one of those drivers."

Each option is powered by CUE according to the press release, which is Cadillac's in-vehicle "experience" for connectivity and control. These options are only available for XTS models currently.

The four new displays include:

Balanced Display: This option is the default cluster design for the XTS. This cluster was designed for drivers who like a traditional layout when it comes to the size and quality of the display according to the press release.

Simple Layout: This cluster was constructed for those who don't need a lot when it comes to the graphics and design of the display. Instead they're more worried about the information it can give like the fuel left in the vehicle, audio controls and speed the car is going.

Performance Layout: This layout was designed for car drivers who "want information on the car itself" according to General Motors. The speedometer is placed on the right, with the tachometer on the left. Drivers with this option can change the display with other information on the car like fuel consumption.

Enhanced Display: This option is for the technology crazed driver, and while it includes a simple look, the driver can pull up and scroll through all the different pages with ease. Features displayed on this option include a navigation map on the left and digital speedometer on the right.

"Drivers can also further customize each layout to their own personal liking," Martin said in the press release. "They can flip through all the information pages to permanently display their favorite preset radio stations, check tire pressure, navigation, fuel range, and temperature among other features."

The company designed each option as a "screen with-in a screen" and each will be less awkwardly placed in vehicles than display units before. Standard features like the tachometer allow drivers to navigate routes with ease while still being able to just simply control the radio as well.
