Octane Academy Scheduled To Return For Second Season On NBC Sports Network and Will Feature Fiesta ST

Ford's popular reality show "Octane Academy" has been renewed for another season which will be broadcasted on NBC's Sports Network channel this summer.  

The show will feature the all-new Fiesta ST in season two which will begin in June 2013. The company made the announcement in a press release issued on Thursday.

"Octane Academy is gaining momentum and the idea of reuniting our superstar athletes for season two is generating a lot of electricity," said Mary Ellen Abraham, Ford car experiential marketing manager in a press release. "We were thrilled with the success of season one and are ready to take it to the next level.

Pro rally car racer Ken Block will be driving the St vehicle for season two. Block is also famous for creating the Gymkhana 5.

The new Fiesta St contains a 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine and is expected to accomplish 197 horsepower with 214 pound-feet of torque according to the press release.

The show will also feature the return of Formula D champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. who will be driving the new Mustang GT this summer and Brian Deegan who will be driving the F-150 SVT Raptor. Deegan is a two-time Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Pro 2 Unlimited champion.

The show will feature pro drivers taking camp hopefuls through a number of driving and action sports challenges. The winner of each camp will move on to face other camp winners in the season finale on July 28.

"We are looking for contestants who show the skills, the adrenaline and the raw ability to compete in the action sports world," Abraham said in the press release. "The show is geared toward a millennial audience, but is certainly entertaining for anyone who loves competition, action sports, and has a passion for cars, trucks and driving. We are also excited about our relationship with Alli Sports and NBC Sports Group, which allows us to bring Octane Academy to a broader audience."

The overall winner will have the chance to become a race car driver eventually by receiving a racing scholarship and an all-new Ford vehicle according to the press release. Those who would are interested in being a part of the show can register and post an application video on the Octane Academy website.

Application hopefuls will also be asked to compete in a number of regional casting events planed all around the country.

"Octane Academy really connects Fiesta ST to the customers who love this car," said Liz Elser, Ford Fiesta marketing manager. "The Fiesta ST speaks to a young person who likes to race, and lives life for the rush of feeling alive. It's great to have a show that allows that person to experience the car."
