Apple’s iPad The Top Requested Tech Gift Kids Want For Christmas According To Nielsen, Higher Than Nintendo Wii U (SEE CHARTS)

Nielsen research data released a report this week stating that the Apple iPad is the most requested tech gift kids aged between 6 and 12 want to see under the Christmas tree this December. Four of the top five most requested tech gifts for this Christmas according to the report are Apple products.

Approximately 44 percent of children who were surveyed for the report said they would be asking for the full-sized iPad this year and 36 percent would be asking for the iPad mini. The iTouch and some version of the iPhone also placed high on the list at 36 percent and 33 percent respectively.

The Nintendo Wii U came in at a distant second to the iPad for 2012 at 39 percent, which shouldn't be considered as too much of a disappointment for the video game company, as they are far superior over their top competitors on the list.

The Kinect For Xbox 360 was the next video game system to rank on the list at 31 percent, with the Nintendo 3DS/ 3DS XL coming in after it at 29 percent. The Sony Playstation 3 is still pretty high on the most wanted gifts for this Christmas despite being out on the market for over five years now. The device received 26 percent of the vote according to the report.

For people 13 or older, the iPad also ranked number one as the most requested item for this Christmas, receiving 21 percent of the vote from teens and adults that were surveyed. A computer device ranked second on the list, receiving 19 percent of the votes.  Surprisingly the Nintendo Wii U ranked fourth on the list, which has to be seen as a good sign for the company which advertises the device more for children.

More E-readers appeared on the 13 and older list, as an E-Reader overall received 13 percent of the votes and 10 percent said they're hoping to get a Kindle Fire.

"With discretionary dollars and heavy competition across gift categories, these study results suggest that consumer electronics and gaming devices should be an exciting sector to watch this holiday shopping season," said Nielsen in the study.

The vast amount of different electronic devices available for this holiday season should make for an interesting couple of months to see how companies will try one upping one another to win people over. As of right now Apple is clearly in-line to dominate the holiday season, but as history has shown that could change in a matter of days.
