iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak Update: iPhone 4S, 5 Users Still Waiting For Unlock, Scam Sites Capitalizing, Are Developers Moving On?

Another day has passed, and still no one has been able to accomplish an iOS 6 untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 smartphones. The news comes as a disappointment to most as Chronic Dev developers were close to achieving an untethered jailbreak this past Friday.

Since then however no news has been reported and it even seems some developers may be moving on to new obstacles as the idea of an untethered jailbreak seems more unrealistic every day.

Dev-Team member Joshua Hill has been tweeting and updating jailbreak hopefuls about his progress since last week when a partial jailbreak was accomplished to the delight of millions of users. Hill was able to achieve and posted a picture of the partial jailbreak online to prove his work, but still wasn't able to complete the process.

The partial jailbreak caused most to believe a conclusion would come possibly as early as Monday but as of this afternoon nothing new has occurred. More bad news was confirmed however by the International Digital Times, which reports that Hill is now no longer working on the jailbreak at all.

The report which confirmed tweets sent by one of Hill's co-workers stating that Hill has stopped working on the jailbreak for now, to work on "better things" seemingly meaning that the best chance at a jailbreak could now be shot.

"Even if I quit Chronic-Dev, I can never quit chronic, or developing, it's a developed chronic condition," Hill said last week.

Most experts feel that the news could just be a bluff to give Hill more time as he continues to figure out a safe jailbreak for users to install, without the constant pressure. Developers have seemingly been working on a jailbreak since the iPhone was released in late Sept. and with fake sites like Absinthe/Greenpois0n and https://greenpois0nblog.blogspot.com/appearing every day, they have really started feeling the heat.

More sites have been reported recently by Digital Times to be nothing but a scam, as they promise an untethered jailbreak to users for a ridiculous price as high as $600. Once the fee is paid however, nothing appears for users to download or the download does nothing at all.

Others have speculated Hill may not be bluffing after all, and could be working on something that will potentially impact unreleased devices like the iPhone 5S and iPad 5. Only time will tell now if he or another developer is able to accomplish the untethered jailbreak for so many users.

Other devices users are hoping to jailbreak include the iPad 4 and newly released iPad mini. Until a jailbreak is achieved, people will not be able to fully control their devices as hoped when they made the decision to purchase the expensive previously mentioned devices.
