JetBlue just recently announced that they had already completed its rollout of satellite Wi-Fi this week, which means the company's entire 227 strong fleets now is equipped with what they call "broadband speeds" for every passenger. The New York City-based airline with its Fly-Fi program now offers free internet access that is available for all flights from the departure gate to the arrival gate.
JetBlue's Vice President of marketing, Jamie Perry, said in a statement: "It's 2017 and our customers expect to be connected everywhere, whether that be from the comfort of their sofa or 35,000 feet above it.That's why we're so proud that JetBlue is now the only airline to offer free, high-speed Wi-Fi, live TV and movies for all customers on every plane."
The upgrade of the aircraft seems worth it. It will keep passengers connected with an ultra fast internet connection just similar to what they have at home. The new aircraft's entertainment includes the ability to stream video, use several devices at once, free movies on all aircraft, access The Hub with or without Fly-Fi, offers 100+ channels of free Sirius XM Radio at every seat, 100+ channels of free DIRECT TV on seatback screens and stream any favorite TV shows and movies from Amazon video.
Other major competitors of Jetblue such as Gogo, Southwest, American Airlines and Delta Airlines charges each passenger $19 for a day pass if bought in advance and some of their single flights even reach above $30 if bought after take off. Jetblue's new Fly-Fi program is totally free.
Meanwhile, Jetblue first developed the Fly-Fi on one plane way back in 2013, the company just recently made an expansion to its program by installing on its entire fleet of 227 Airbus A320s, A321s and Embraer 190s. In addition, JetBlue's Wi-Fi will only be available all over the continental U.S.
Several airline companies are now seeing the benefits that the satellite Wi-Fi can give. American Airlines already selected ViaSat to supply connectivity for its brand new fleet of Boeing 737 max planes.
