Samsung might release its new foldable smartphone in the upcoming third quarter of this year. Samsung is looking to fire on every cylinder since it has been tipped to roll out more than 100.000 units of fold-out devices in the third quarter of 2017.

According to Gadgets 360 Samsung had a technical completion of the smartphone but the company still hasn’t made a final decision about launching the smartphone due to marketability and profitability issues. The final decision will be announced once the personnel reshuffle of the company’s information technology and mobile communications unit is carried out. The development of fold-in phones is complete.

The challenge to shift into the fold-out phone category wasn’t big and they can be used as 7-inch tablets after the panels fold-out. Samsung Electronics will probably make the decision after the launch of its foldable smartphone after its executive-level reshuffle in February or in March. LG also started the development of the fold-out smartphone technology 2 or 3 years ago and they also have been tipped to produce more than 100.000 unit until the fourth quarter of 2017. By the end of 2016 Samsung worked on two foldable smartphones, one with a dual-screen on both sides and another with a single flexible OLED display.

Some reports claim that the new foldable smartphone will be out in 2018 while some say it will launch in the third quarter of 2017. Samsung already started working on 100.000 units of its folding smartphone for the third quarter of 2017, Yahoo reported. This Samsung smartphone will feature a bendable display which will allow the users to fold out the device into a 7-inch tablet and it will probably be the Galaxy X. Allegedly Samsung started this smartphone in August 2016 where the screen will be tucked inside while closed and it will be present on the outside when closed.
