Uber, the popular ride-sharing business which some people use for commuting is facing quite a predicament. The company is now facing a lawsuit alongside Honda because of a car accident.

The accidents happened when the driver of a Honda Odyssey ran through the red light, resulting in a fatal crash with a pickup. The passenger, a Dallas woman named Sarah Milburn is left paralyzed from the chest below after the accidents. Milburn, who attended a birthday event booked an Uber ride. The accident happened on November 15, 2015, at McKinney and Fitzhugh Avenues in Dallas Uptown.

The Uber driver named Aran Yusufzai, along with the owner of the Honda Odyssey which was used by Yusufzai, Dawood Kohistanti, are not facing charges filed by Milburn, alongside Uber and Honda. Richard DeLeon, the driver of the pickup is not part of the lawsuit but he will still be facing charges because the accident caused serious injury. The lawsuit, filed in December, accuses Uber and Honda of failing to provide safety to their passengers and left Milburn "catastrophically injured and faces a lifetime of physical impairment and challenges."

Uber claims to have screened their drivers they hire for the service. They exclude those with criminal records and driving offenses for the past seven years into their screening. However, Uber failed to screen Yusufzai properly because the driver was arrested in 2014 for involvement in a "gambling den" and drug possession. Kohistanti is also arrested for the same charges in the same year. These records should've appeared when Uber is in the process of screening the two for the job in the company.

Uber also has a history of a settlement with the affected parties. So there's a chance that this lawsuit won't get to the court and the company would pay the damages the accident caused. But it is important for the company to start reevaluating their process of screening and hiring drivers for the company.
