As Volvo V90 is regaining its reputation as the top luxury car, only the V90 Cross Country model has been made available for sale in the U.S.  Those who are interested to buy the standard V90 will have to buy by special order or go to Sweden to make the purchase.

According to Auto Week, should the buyer opt to go to Sweden and make the purchase, Volvo shall make available two plane tickets and hotel accommodations. The special order will be handled by Concierge based in the U.S. where the buyer can choose the customizations desired.

"Luxury buyers seek to fully customize their vehicle while enjoying a personalized experience," said Bodil Eriksson, Volvo vice president for marketing. "The Volvo V90 attracts buyers who are determined to oversee every detail, and customer order production via Concierge allows them to realize this."

Volvo is not keeping stock of the standard V90 and the more sophisticated S90, concentrating on the Cross Country model which is a lifted variety and more sporty with plastic cladding. The company expects more sales performance for this Cross Country model and has already scheduled deliveries for the first quarter of this year.

The Volvo is still a well-known high end car with prices starting at $56,295 for the T6 V90 Cross Country model. The V90 standard station wagon can be ordered through the Concierge that has online services and buyers can visit mega dealers to ask for individual customization requirements.

The Volvo V90 station wagon is installed with either a T5 front wheel drive configuration or a T6 all-wheel drive in R-design or Inscription options.  The T5 front wheel drive version is powered by 250 hp turbocharged four cylinder 2.0 liter engine matched to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Volvo V90 T6 model is also matched by a turbocharger plus an added supercharger to boost power up to 316 hp. Prospective buyers are being attracted to the chance of sightseeing in Europe to purchase a Volvo, to buy and test drive the car in European roads  before shipping the vehicle to the U.S.
