The 2017 models of the Honda CR-V and Toyota's RAV4 are both equally elegant and probably two of the best compact crossovers in the market today. They have, more or less, the same features and offerings but which of the two is actually the best?

The 2017 Honda CR-V versus the 2017 Toyota RAV4. Both vehicles are undoubtedly industry leaders in terms of sales. Sales volume leadership is a game of tug of war between the two compact crossovers year after year. Both the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4 are roughly the same size and have, more or less, similar interiors, fuel efficiency, and price value.

The CR-V and the RAV4 both have common features such as Bluetooth connectivity, steering wheel audio controls, power windows/locks/mirrors, a 36,000-mile warranty, and a towing capacity of 1,500 pounds. Both compact crossovers have standard safety features that include stability control, a brake override system, and anti-lock brakes with brake assist although the CR-V has six airbags compared to the RAV4's four.

Differences between the CR-V and the RAV4 are not big and are, in fact, unnoticeable. However, they are still worth to mention for the sake of those wanting to buy the latest mini SUV.

Passenger volume, cargo space, and ground clearance. The Honda CR-V has 103 cubic feet of passenger volume which make it roomier than the Toyota RAV4's 101 cubic feet. With regard to cargo space, the Honda CR-V still comes out on top with 76 cubic feet versus the Toyota RAV4's 73 cubic feet when the seats are down. The CR-V's 18-inch wheels are just an inch wider compared to the RAV4's.

Engine and fuel economy. The Toyota RAV4 has a 2.5 liter in-line four cylinder engine with 176 horsepower. Honda's CR-V, on the other hand, has a 1.5-liter turbo charged in-line four cylinder engine with 190 horsepower and gives more miles per gallon. In addition, the CR-V comes in continuously variable and automatic transmissions.

Driver-assistive technology. Every RAV4 model comes with pre-collision breaking, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control systems. The Honda CR-V offers more comprehensive safety systems on all models save for its entry-level LX and can even steer the wheel under certain situations.
