The 2018 Lamborghini Urus SUV is one of the most anticipated sports utility vehicle for next year. Today, the Italian sports car company has confirmed that the Urus will have a plug-in hybrid option.

In a recent statement, Maurizio Reggiani, the company's R&D Chief has revealed more details about the SUV. The Lamborghini Urus will open the door to many first for the company

It will be the very first off-road vehicle from the brand since the LM002 back in the 1980s. More than 3 decades later, the company is willing to give off-road vehicles another try.

Not only that, the Urus will also be Lamborghini's first try to enter the land of electric propulsion. Buyers can have the option to choose a plug-in hybrid variant of the car.

The Urus SUV is still a concept. However, Lamborghini is looking to unveil the anticipated SUV next year. It is also expected that it will immediately be available in the international market right by the middle of 2018.

Aside from the plug-in hybrid model, the other option will be a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine. Reggiani also confirmed that turbocharging is 'completely mandatory' for all the Urus model. This puts the SUV in the same spot with the Audi RS6/RS7 which produces up to 445kW and 750Nm.

According to reports, the Urus will also be set up on the same platform as the Bentley Bentayga and Audi Q7. This means that the Urus can potentially borrow different chassis components from the said SUVs.

If this will be the case, then Lamborghini's first hybrid SUV will have a 48V powered active anti-roll suspension system and high-tech turbochargers. With all these similarities in mind, the R&D chief assured the Urus' appearance will be one-of-a-kind, "the design is pure Lamborghini", he stated.

Lamborghini will also be offering the Urus in real-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive variety. Reggiani also assured that Urus will be a more focused performance car, very much like the other Lambos.
