Smart has introduced an improved third generation of the conventional car model. Car and Driver reported that the Smart ForTwo Electric drive is a 60-kilowatt (81-horsepower) electric motor producing 118 lb-ft of torque. A 17.69 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack sits under the passenger compartment, keeping the tall car's center of gravity as low as possible. When fully charged, it is estimated to have a range of 70 to 80 miles, roughly the same as the model it replaces-EPA-rated at 68 miles combined and perhaps slightly better, as well as more energy-efficient.
