The joint project of Toyota and BMW was brewing the all-new Toyota Supra, which is in its final phase. The all new Toyota-Supra was a 14-year hiatus of Supra which was introduced 1978. The upcoming fifth-generation of Supra was unveiled at 2014 Detriot auto show by a pair of Toyota FT-1 concepts design at the company's Calty Design Research studio in California.

The Toyota Supra would be available in the showrooms in 2018. There would be an option of either a traditional petrol engine or a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain. The Toyota's most recent TS050 LMP1 Le Mans race car was the basis of the Supra's hybrid technology version. The car has a short front overhang and a long sweeping nose section that houses the longitudinally mounted engine, according to Your Technology Zone.

The Supra's crisper and smoother appearance were more defined and tone-down comparing it to the FT-1 model. The car also was built on it largely aluminum body. The FT-1's two-door layout and the liftback-style tailgate was retained. The Supra provides accommodation for two-person in the front and a space in the back taken by a shallow parcel shelf.

Toyota and BMW developed a lightweight process for the Supra and Z5. BMW's Z5 was developed with its uniquely tuned hybrid motor with added electric boosting for better performance. This includes the B48 engine where it is turbocharged 2.0-litre four cylinder, giving around 248bhp. This is a 2-wheel rear drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

BMW and Toyota remained quite on the volume of production in both the Supra and Z5. This project between the two Car Manufacturers is based on the engineering and technology-sharing collaboration. The collaboration also includes in other fields like fuel cell systems, lightweight technology, and a lithium air battery project which aims to advance the development of electric car development, according to Auto Car.
