Tech buffs have been restlessly waiting for Microsoft to unveil the successor of its Surface Pro 4 tablet, the Surface Pro 5. Surprisingly, leaks related to the purported device have been scarce, thus leading to speculations surrounding the Surface Pro 5 release date, specs and other rumored features.

Microsoft unveiled a few highly anticipated devices including the Surface Studio and the Surface Book during its October conference. However, the Redmond-based tech giant refrained from shedding more light on the equally anticipated Surface Pro 5. This fueled more speculations around the device's release date. There's hearsay in the technology sphere that the Surface Pro 5 will hit the store shelves in early 2017, according to PC Advisor.

The rumor stems from the fact that the next Windows 10 update, Redstone 2 is not expected to be unveiled until Spring 2017. This correlates with the fact that many believe Intel's Kaby Lake chips are likely to become available now. Rumors were running rampant indicating that the MacBook Pro will come with a Kaby Lake chip; however, Apple opted for a Skylake instead. Now, Kaby Lake-powered laptops such as the Dell's XPS 13 have started to surface.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Specs & Features

In terms of specs, the tablet is expected to sport a 12.3-inch PixelSense screen. Moreover, it is rumored to arrive in two variants including a 2K resolution and a 4K Ultra HD model.

Under the hood, the device is said to pack 16GB of RAM, coupled with Intel's Kaby Lake processor. However, some suggest that the next-gen tablet will be powered by Sky Lake processor. The Surface Pro 5 is likely to come with AMD or Nvidia Pascal GPU, and a robust battery equipped with USB-C support.

Microsoft postponed the Surface Pro 5 release date to 2017 as the company thought the device will have an edge over other similar devices in the market if it has Intel's Kaby Lake, according to Vine Report.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Price

Microsoft Surface Pro 5's base model will be up for grabs starting at $899. The 4K UHD model, on the other hand, will come with a steep price tag of $1,599, if rumors proved to be true.
