BMW electric cars had reached the 100k milestone as the BMW I3, I8 and other plug-in electric and hybrid vehicles of its brand sold 100k worldwide. This is according to the data released by the company this week.

BMW I3, I8, and iPerformance All Together

Today almost everyone knows BMW i line. The sub-brand dedicated to electric vehicles was launched back in November 2013 with the goal to promote sustainable electric vehicles. And even in just three years, the BMW i line has sold more than 100,000 vehicles worldwide, according to NGTnews.

The BMW i3 is the most successful as it already sold 60,000 units and is still very popular in the United States where even police cars will get it. On the other hand, the BMW i8 sports have delivered 10,000 units. To these must be added another 30,000 units plug-in hybrid models of the brand. Remember that hybrids are placed under the name IPerformance and there are already several models like the BMW 330e, the X5 xDrive40e or Series 2 Active Tourer 225xe, according to Evo.

BMW Electric Cars Future

BMW's strategy seems to follow MINI where in last week the MINI Cooper Countryman All4, the first plug-in hybrid of this brand had been revealed. In the coming years, BMW has expected a series of releases that will strengthen their part in the EV market as well as the self-driving industry.

Currently, the company sells seven electric vehicles like the BMW i3, but this offer will be expanded in 2017. Probably one of the most has been talked about is the BMW i8 Roadster, which seems to finally arrive in 2018. In the following years, there will be two major releases that will set the tone. First, in 2019 becoming the first 100 percent electric MINI and then in 2020 we will see the launch of the BMW X3 power and then later, the much awaited BMW INEXT.

"When it comes to electric vehicles, we have managed to offer this technology to our customers. The next technological advance that will address is the automated driving where the BMW INEXT set a new benchmark," he added.

We can't wait to see what BMW has stored for us in the future!
