Tesla Model 3 sold out - at least for the first 12 months. The announcement was made by CEO of Tesla Motors himself Elon Musk through his official Twitter account adding that the production of the first batch will start in mid-2017 and will deliver as soon as possible while new orders starting today may take up to late 2018 before it will be delivered.

Tesla Model 3 Incredible Success

The success of the Tesla Model 3 is undeniable. Even though Tesla Motors only showed a prototype version of its launch, more than 150 thousand orders were made in just 24 hours where people even made a deposit of $1000 to be among the first to have the new Tesla Model 3

Last May Musk confirmed it had already received 373,000 bookings. Today, although no new data were announced, rumors suggest that the actual order figures could exceed 500,000 units, according to Electrek.

The fact that Tesla has reached these levels of sales and popularity in just a short span proves that the 12-month production may have already sold out.

Tesla Model 3 Release Date

Having all these demands, the situation for the average waiting time for Model 3 is not looking good and release dates are still unknown. Shortly after his presentation, Mush commented that Tesla would have many problems to meet growing demand and the production capacity of the company is limited.

However, with the opening of its Gigafactoría and restructuring of the range of other models like the Tesla Model X, the brand is positioned to make the hundreds of thousands of Tesla Model 3 sold in just a year, which may not be enough, according to TechCrunch. Delivery of the first 12 months Model 3 order will be around 2018 and all new orders may be delivered in 2018.

The fact that the Model 3 position itself as the most economical model of Tesla and offer a range well above 300 kilometers makes a successful pitch but other brands may catch up to this due to long waiting time. To make it up, Musk left a promise to Tesla Model 3 hopefuls that Tesla is increasing the production ramp as fast as possible.
