F1 News: Lewis Hamilton Cheated? Driver Wants Answer After Engine Failure

Oct 03, 2016 09:29 PM EDT | Mariechris Felipe

Lewis Hamilton felt cheated and seems to feel that the Mercedes team does not want him to win after his engine failed and caught fire at the Formula One Malaysian Grand Prix last weekend. This caused a severe dent into Hamilton's title hopes, where his teammate Nico Rosberg now leads with a 23-point advantage.

Crucial Accident Or Intentional Incident?

Probably for the first time in F1 history, a Mercedes V6 hybrid engine has failed and broken and it couldn't have happened at a more crucial time as Lewis Hamilton was behind the wheel, trying to get the win and redeem his chances for the title. It has done so at a crucial time in the championship when the British F1 racer was preparing to cut eight points separating him from Nico Rosberg in the fight for the F1 title in 2016.

All this seems fishy for Hamilton and has accused his team saying "they do not want me to win"

The British dominated the race with an iron hand until Lap 40. He had made a perfect start, had perfectly protected the lead from Red Bull and will probably would win for the first time since the F1 summer vacation. A win would also have him tie on points with Nico Rosberg on top of the standings for drivers, but in F1 racing, nothing is final until the end.

The engine of the Mercedes W07 failed with only 16 laps to go. Hamilton was heard shouting "No, no!". Hamilton stopped his car to escape from fire while lamenting again and again.

"I Want Answers"

After the race, Lewis Hamilton was scowling before the press, lambasting his team Mercedes.

"It is all very rare, it is very difficult to find something positive beyond the work they have done from the computer. We have so many engines for eight drivers and mine are the only ones failing. It is unacceptable, someone has to give answers. Everything was fine and suddenly the line has failed" the three-time world champion said, hinting that his car seemed to have been sabotaged.

Niki Lauda, chief executive of Mercedes, believes that Lewis doesn't intend to go against the team and was just caught up in emotions because of the loss. The chief executive also added that he will talk with the racer on their way to Japan for the next race.

The next race will be held within a week at the Suzuka circuit in Japan where Nico Rosberg leads the stats race by 23 points over teammate Lewis Hamilton. Can Hamilton close in and redeem his self? Is there really a sabotage happening at the Mercedes team? We'll wait and see.
