The new European facelifted 2017 Lexus IS range kicks of the Paris Motor Show yesterday. It doesn't boast a lot of developments from what we saw last spring during the Shanghai Motor Show in Beijing. However, the changes in the bumper, headlights and tailpipes makes it a must-have luxurious sedan at the European market.

Why Fix If It Isn't Broken

For the 2017 European model of the Lexus IS, Lexus opted to remain true to the outgoing model's bold design, which got a lot of positive feedback for the past few months. It introduced small changes to the bumper (with air intakes larger and darker chrome grill), the new sporty headlights, tailpipes, exhaust tips finished in chrome and a new rectangular taillights to boast a more luxurious sedan.

The tires are also now available in three sizes: 16 inches, 17 inches and 18 inches. New exterior color finishes are also available such as the Deep Blue Mica and the Graphite Black.

There are no changes in the engine and it will still come in 2.5 liter four-cylinder mated to an electric motor that emits 97 g/km of CO2. There's also a choice of a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder mated to eight-speed automatic transmission that can produce up to 241 hp.

Gearing Towards Greener

The 2017 Lexus IS retains its powertrains, with a choice of the IS300h hybrid or IS 200t 2.0-litre petrol. But to cater for the greener goals of the European countries, emissions for the hybrid have been dropped by 4g/km of CO2, The reduction in CO2 drops it down by a BIK band, meaning it fits into the 16% 2016-2017 bracket rule of European countries. Emission figures for the petrol unit has not been released yet but, it is said that it will drop to 160g/km compared to the 167g/km of CO2 and 39.2mpg returns of the current model.

Other Changes

For the interior, the new Lexus IS has a larger multimedia screen, boasting a 10.25 inches instead of seven inches to which the curent model have. Also premiering are coasters and some detail improvements in the speedometer. Safety-wise, the IS incorporates the Lexus Safety System+ suite of active safety technologies that is designed to help prevent or mitigate accidents. It includes features such as pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control function and more.
