Sep 27, 2016 04:27 AM EDT | Eve C.

Details about Mazda's updated model, the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF Launch Edition, which stands for "Retractable Fastback" is already out online. Catch the latest update on its features and its similarities and differences from the current model here.

First of all, Car and Driver noted that the freshly-revamped model is almost the same as the predecessor, except that it features a power-folding targa roof panel instead of a manually-folding cloth soft top. The company is now offering 1000 Launch Edition models for preorder in the United States.

The Japanese automaker will expand the availability of the units after that. But there is an exemption with the Launch Edition model.

According to another article by Car and Driver, those who will purchase the first 1000 models will get an impressive bonus. The limited edition variant will be available in Machine Gray with Auburn leather interiors paired with the black roof panel and special badges and a numbered Tourneau watch as well.

The general preorders for the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF Launch Edition will start on October 3 if there is already a supply available. The buyers will have to wait until February 2017 for Mazda dealerships to deliver the orders.

Customer who received an invitation with a personalized code will have a limited time to have a $500 refundable deposit. Meanwhile, the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF Launch Edition has an impressive price of $34,785 for the manual transmission.

However, those who would like to drive an automatic transmission vehicle must add $1,075 to the payment. Mazda is warning the public that the limited edition might be sold out early, like what happened in their previous model that was sold out not more than 10 minutes after it was launched.

On the other hand, Motor Trend noted that the non-Launch Edition RF models are expected to arrive later in the first quarter of 2017, and will be offered in the full range of Miata colors.

Notably, the Miata RF is powered by the same 155-hp Skyactiv-G 2.0-liter I-4 engine as the standard model but weighs 80-100 pounds more.
