The Tesla Model S ludicrous mode had first introduced racing car levels of performance in a mass-market sedan while still costing just a fraction of it. Naturally, the Model S P90D had become a regular at many a drag racing circuits where enthusiasts are eager to find out how the Model S fares against many of its gas guzzling and often more illustrious competitors.

Things took on a new turn with the launch of the more capable Model S P100D. Equipped with a larger 100 kWh battery, the P100D turned out to be even quicker as it lapped up the zero to 60 mph sprint in just 2.5 seconds. Tesla went to town trumpeting the new-found status of the sedan claiming it to be the fastest production car in the world.

And rightfully so, considering its closest rivals - the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 - as far as speed is concerned are just a shade faster than the P100D. However, unlike the Ferrari or the Porsche that costs several times more and were produced in limited numbers, the P100D is a production sedan and can actually seat 5 with decent space for their luggage as well.

Coming back to the drag race, it proved to be unique in that it turned be an all-electric affair, with a Model S P90D pitched against its own brethren, the very latest P100D. Also, it's a contest between a father and his son who represent the Tesla Racing Channel, Motor Evolution reported.

The result isn't too surprising though, considering that the P100D lived up to its reputation and managed to beat its slightly lesser cousin in all the four passes. That has got to do with the lager 100 kWh battery it has at its disposal compared to the 90 kWh for the P90D though that apart, everything else remains just the same with both the cars.

Worth mentioning, it has just been a while back that the P100D had found itself up against the mighty Lamborghini Huracan. There too the Tesla had made a solid start and had the edge in the first few moments before its screaming and hydrocarbon belching rival managed a lead in the end.
