Mercedes-Benz is making a very important bet for electrical vehicles today as they unveiled the Mercedes Vision Van Concept, a prototype electric van that can be the van of the future, designed to beat Tesla at its own game with its advanced technological functions.

Better Deliveries With The Vision Van

Within the 'Advance' initiative, Mercedes-Benz presents the future of light freight with this prototype van. The Mercedes Vision Van combines innovative solutions and distribution solutions and can be used for both urban and suburban areas. The concept van includes intelligent automation technology that connects the charging process, road transport and delivery to the recipient.

The most impressive feature of the Vision Van are the two drones resting on its roof. They are prepared to distribute packages autonomously; thus, revolutionizing the delivery sector. This is accompanied by an interior space intelligent charging which is able to organize packages so that it is easier to locate which packages need to be delivered. Lastly, the route to which the packages will be delivered can be programmed and the van will automatically take the package there.

The brand estimates that could save up to four minutes per delivery. In fact, Volker Mornhinweg, head of Mercedes’ commercial vehicles unit, estimates that the technology can even increase productivity up to 50 percent for delivery services.

Engine Capabilities

The Mercedes Vision Van Concept uses an electric propulsion system that develops 100 hp and 270 NM of power. It has a range between 80 and 270 kilometers with a top speed of 120 km/h. Its 75 kw batteries are good for about 168 miles, which is perfect for a day of last-mile deliveries.

It is, of course, zero emissions-certified, which means that it can be driven in cities and countries that in the future would ban vehicles that pollute.

Mercedes hopes to make this vehicle a reality within five years. A future delivery van that minimizes the human element. No loading the boxes, no finding the right package, no human error at all. All the delivery man got to do really is to let the recipient sign.
