Seven years have passed since Audi released a version of the Audi A5 Sportsback, this is why everybody is now highly anticipating the 2017 Audi A5 Sportback at the Paris Motor Show. Functionality without losing the sporty feel is the most outstanding feature of this new Audi A5 Sportback which, together with a powerful Audi S5 Sportback version will certainly get attention.

Here are 7 more reasons why we believe this will happen.

Exterior design evolved, not revolutionized

We know that Audi is one of the car manufacturers that goes with the mantra "if a design works, it is best not to touch it". The Audi A5 Sportback 2017 is no exception to this rule so that in terms of exterior design, the A5 Sportback was evolved rather than revolutionized. The single-frame grille design at the front was widened, the waistline is sharper, emphasizing the wheel arches. The tailgate has also gotten larger. The addition of the extra doors is the only main difference from the coupe.

A roomier interior

The 2017 Audi A5 Sportback increased interior dimensions. 17 mm cabin length, 11 mm in width shoulders of the front seats, and 24 millimeters more in the space for the knees of the occupants of the rear seats. The luggage compartment volume of 480 liters remains, in this case, expandable to 1300 liters, and incorporates electrical closing, with an option to mount by opening sensor. The board also has been reorganized, giving priority to a continuous horizontal line of walking and increases the feeling of spaciousness.

It also renewed the range of colors to choose from finishes for both the Sport level as in the S line package. For example, the instrument panel can be black or two-tone color, with a dark tone at the top and a lighter tone at the bottom. The ambient light was also improved, with 30 colors to choose from.

Motorizations now get more for less

The new engines have prepared for the sedan coupe experience, increasing performance while looking for a better fuel consumption. Thus, the new TFSI and TDI provide up to 17 percent more power with up to 22 percent less consumption.

The transmission systems of the cars have been updated in both manual gearboxes and the S-tronic and eight-speed tiptronic; the latter reserved for the 286-hp, 3.0 TDI and the Audi S5 Sportback (3.0 TFSI 354 hp). In addition, the quattro is now combined with the ultra technology, and is available as an option with sports differential on the two largest engines.

Meanwhile, the new addition to the G-tron range, after Sportback G-tron A3 and A4 Avant G-tron, the A5 Sportback is issued a 100g/km of CO₂. Based on the block 2.0 TFSI but adapted to use gasoline, CNG or Audi e-gas, the engine g-tron shortens the compression phase and expansion lengthens the time. Also, it closes before admission and compressed to a higher ratio, increasing fuel efficiency.

Greater stability in driving

The greater stability provided by the length and distance between major axes have led to the revision of the CDC adaptive suspension of the Audi A5 Sportback, which now provides more rigidity in the lateral movements of support and softness in the longitudinal movements.

The electromechanical steering is completely new. It weighs 3.5 kg less, consumes less energy and has a direct gear ratio of 15.9:1. Meanwhile, the optional dynamic steering makes the gear ratio by up to 100 percent through the use of an intermediate gear, resulting in a much more direct steering.

Assisted driving

The Audi A5 Sportback 2017 comes with the Audi pre-sense system. This system is able to detect curves, roundabouts, crossings, descents, populations, signals and speed limits. It can monitor the road at speeds up to 85 km/h to detect pedestrians and vehicles and initiates autonomous braking if necessary.

The collision avoidance assistant intervenes in a situation of risk, warning the driver first with a little touch on the brake, and then facilitating the turn when the driver acts on the steering wheel, depending on the previously calculated distance by the system path.

The system is complemented with other usual driving assists of Audi cars such as parking assistance, rear cross traffic alert, signal recognition by camera, lane change assistance, and so on .

Controls and displays based on the MMI systems

The new Audi A5 Sportback incorporates, as standard, an analog speedometer and tachometer which is large enough to be read, 7 inches to be exact. With the MMI navigation system, this screen becomes 8.3 inches.

The controls in the wide center console. In the center, a rotary button facilitates navigation. It also incorporates a renewed voice control to perform frequent searches using phrases and words closer to ordinary language, such as "I want to call ..." or "Where is the nearest gas station?".

Infotainment system for all

The top of the range finishes for the new Audi A5 Sportback is its Infotainment System. Audi added 10 GB of storage, DVD, Audi Connect for three years, five browser updates and an 8.3-inch monitor with a resolution of 1,024x480. And this is all just for the driver.

Compatible with Apple Car Auto Play and Android, the new Audi A5 Sportback has an Audi Infotainment tablet installed in the center of the rear seats and for the entertainment of the passengers. It is a tablet that is based on the Tegra 40 that uses a 10.1-inch screen with 1,920x1,200 resolution. It is supported by Android, it has 32 GB of internal memory, expandable with a micro SD card, and has been designed to withstand extreme temperatures.

Highlighting the infotainment system is the 3D surround sound of the sound system with 19 speakers and 755 W.
