After 17 years of playing Wolverine in the X-men movie franchise, Hugh Jackmen bids goodbye to the iconic hairstyle and mutton chops.

The actor will be sporting the beard and the mutton chops in what may be his last appearance as the ill-tempered, clawed mutant in a third Wolverine film which is still untitled. Jackman was free to shave off the facial hair as the movie production wraps.

"This will be my last one," Jackman said in a 2015 interview. "It felt like it was the right time to do it. Seventeen years, I never thought in a million years it would last this long."

Jackman also posted an Instagram video with him shaving off his fiery chops, which, as he says in the clip will make his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness very happy.

My wife is going to be very happy. #GoodbyeChops #thedebs

The most interesting part about the short Instagram Video is that Jackman's beard seem to have streaks of white and gray in it which is sparking theories among fans about the third Wolverine film. Directed by James Mangold, the fans assume that the film will be based on the acclaimed Old Man Logan's storyline, written by Mark Millar, that ran from 2008 to 2009: This famous eight-issue graphic novel features an elderly Wolverine living and trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic Earth where super villains reign.

Jackman has played Wolverine in seven movies from the X-Men franchise. His role in the original X-Men trilogy led him to international stardom. After X-Men: The Last Stand, He has carried his own solo-billed spinoff series and has appeared in the period piece prequel X-Men film, X-Men The Last Stand. According to Jackman, the upcoming Wolverine film will mark the end of his time playing the fierce, self-healing Canadian mutant.

The third Wolverine film is expected to slash its way into theaters on March 3, 2017.
