Stefano Domenicali, CEO of luxury car manufacturer Lamborghini has issued a statement on Tuesday that they are anticipating a surge in production rate, by as much as two-fold, come 2019 the moment it unveils its new Sports Utility Vehicles. This is a far cry from the initial intention of putting a limit on the annual production of its line of cars at a mere 3,500.
SUV production is expected to be just as great, and could increase even more due to high demand. The Italy-based car manufacturer is an affiliate of the Volkswagen Group.
The recently instated Chief Executive officer also announced its plans to grow its network of international dealers to a target 160, which is exactly 28 more than the present number. The biggest market for Lamborghini cars is in the US, with a third of its dealers and transactions going on in the said county, reaching a staggering 3,245 car sales overall for 2015 alone, with 30% of the number belonging to the US.
An additional 500 workers have been made part of the company, with the company's manufacturing plant in Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy having twice more employees, as a part of an investment means worth millions of Euros, from 2015. The brand new Sports Utility Vehicle will be out in the market in 2018, with an initial price of $200,000
This is not the first time a car manufacturer known for its luxury cars has started to manufacture SUVs as well, with the Porsche unit of VW doing so much earlier. The Lamborghini CEO has stated that he wants to put restrictions on the volume of their brand.
From the 20 roadsters put up, the company has already started purchasing transactions in them, with an initial price of 2 million euros, sans tax. Lamborghini plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid electric version of the SUV by 2020, and could eventually add a zero emission vehicle.
