It has been three decades of the existence of the BMW M3, and to celebrate the special occasion, the Bavarian car maker has announced 500 '30 Jahre M3' special edition models will be built. While the European version of the same debuted in May 2016 itself, BMW has now stated 150 units of the '30 Jahre M3' will be on sale in the US.

Prices start at $83,250 for the manual transmission version with the model featuring a dual clutch transmission costing $86,150. Both the prices mentioned are exclusive of destination and handling charges.

As for the sedan itself, the first thing with the '30 Jahre M3' anniversary edition that catches the eye is the exterior paint job. It's Macao Blue and is the same as was seen on the Sport Evo BMW M3. Among the other notable touches on the exterior include the BMW Individual High-Gloss Shadow Line trim that adds grace to the kidney frame as well as to the rear M3 badge and the sport exhaust system.

A special edition model would be incomplete without an under-the-hood enhancement and the '30 Jahre M3' has its biturbo 3.0-liter six pot engine tweaked to liberate 19 extra horses. That makes for a combined power output of 444 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. All of that conspires to make the 0 to 60 mph dash in just 3.8 secs for the DCT model and 4 secs for the manual version.

Another highlight of the special edition model is that it features the Competition Package as standard fitment. The adaptive M suspension has also been worked on to handle the extra power surge. That includes upgraded springs, dampers, and stabilizers while the Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes too have been better optimized for enhanced ride comfort as well as handling.

The special feel is carried over to the interiors as well which now feature bi-color Black/Fjord full Merino leather finish drawn from the Individual catalog. Then there also is the '30 Jahre M3' embroidered on the inside which will serve as a reminder of the car's special status.
