How Tesla Autopilot Saved The Life Of A Pedestrian

The Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) proves to be very effective when the Autopilot of Tesla was reported to have saved the life of a pedestrian in the capital city of Washington DC.  The event was reported to Tesla by a Model S owner and the automaker confirmed the event through the vehicle logs, according to Elon Musk.

This happened to a Tesla Model S owner who reported it to the headquarters of Tesla right away. Tesla did further investigations to prove the claim, and it results so a positive.

Thanks to the vehicle logs, the incident is confirmed. The Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) is what was at work in this incident.

The feature present in the Tesla S model is the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system. This is responsible for the saving act that the vehicle has done.

While Autopilot's convenience features like Autosteer and Traffic-Aware Cruise Control are offered at a premium, the safety features powered by the Autopilot, like AEB, are standard on all Tesla vehicles.

It is important to note that the AEB system is offered as a standard feature to all Tesla vehicles. Autosteer and Traffic-Aware Cruise Control are some of the premium features that are offered in other higher end cars.

It doesn't sound like the driver had any of the convenience features of the Autopilot activated at the time of the close call, especially on a street like New York Ave with a lot of traffic lights, it wouldn't be recommended.

The incident does not seem to be that the driver has control of the features of the activated Autopilot during the incident. This is highly unlikely especially in streets that are in New York which has a lot of traffic lights.

It was in response to an owner suggesting that Tesla would need 10 saves for every bad news in order to counter the media attention properly. There was also a media report that says that Tesla needs to have 10 saves to counteract a single bad news related to Tesla vehicles.

At the time (January 2016), he said that Autopilot had made thousands of interventions already. In January 2016, Elon Musk stated that the autopilot feature of Tesla has already saved thousands of lives.

The prevented accident reportedly happened on New York Ave in Washington DC, not in the state of New York.

The accident that was prevented by the autopilot mode of the Tesla vehicle happened on New York avenue in Washington DC.
