Time and time again, we can see that separating from a long time partner really takes a while to fully happen. With the "splitting issue" between Mazda and Ford, the separation still goes on.
The collaboration between the two car companies was all about the pickup trucks that were offered in U.S. markets and foreign markets. However, Mazda announced its new pickup partner. This time, Isuzu gets the deal.
Even though Isuzu has been out of the U.S. consumer market since 2009, it is showing some signs of progress in getting back to the American market as it partners with Mazda in building a series of pickup trucks.
This possibly new pickup will replace the Mazda BT-50.
The BT-50 that was co-developed with Ford in Australia is very similar to the mechanical makeup of the Ford Ranger. The latest variant of this truck has been announced in late 2010. This was manufactured in Thailand and South Africa.
Mazda has been successful in its strategic moves as it found a new replacement to the partnership that it once had with Ford. Isuzu pickups were first known in the U.S. in 1972, when pickup trucks such as the Chevy LUV have rivalled with the pickups of Datsun and Toyota.
As soon as Chevrolet stopped manufacturing the second-generation versions, Isuzu then began manufacturing Chevrolet's model and rebranding it as the P-up in the early 80's. The Isuzu pickup had then replaced the model.
When the pickup contract expired, Isuzu released to the market the new Chevy S-10, also known as the Hombre. In 2006, General Motors sold its entire Isuzu shares due to financial issues.
However, this did not stop them in continuing in co-developing diesel engines that were offered in the Chevrolet Colorado and the GMC Canyon. It is forecasted that the new successor to the Ranger model will be out to the market in 2019.
