Ford Looking To Venture Into Other Services Aside From Car Manufacturing; New Partnerships To Be Seen In The Future

Automaker giant Ford announced on Monday that they are looking to have more partnerships related to transportation services as they would want to venture into another side of vehicles aside from manufacturing them.

The announcement was made by Ford Motor Co-Chairman Bill Ford. Ford told the reporters during a news conference on entrepreneurship in Detroit that people will start seeing more partnerships in the future. These partnerships will be different from what the people are used to seeing in the auto industry, Automotive News reported.

Ford did not, however, go into details as to what the news deals are and who have they partnered with. He did say that the management is still in the process of defining their strategy for self-driving cars, connecting vehicles to the internet, as well as developing possible new transportation services. These transportation services are linked to that of Uber and Lyft as the company would want to make amenities related to ride-sharing.

It was not clear as well as to when the new partnerships will be announced but Ford did say that people will hear more about it throughout this year.

In terms of ride-hailing services, one of the biggest rivals of Ford, General Motors Co., invested $500 million in the ride-sharing industry. They had a deal with Lyft, the biggest competitor of Uber. The deal was closed just this month and they also revealed a plan with Lyft saying that they will develop autonomous electric vehicles.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles also announced earlier this month that they will work with Google's autopilot technology into their Chrysler Pacifica minivans. Ford said when asked about partnering with Google that anything is possible as they also have a good relationship with the internet giant, Business Insider reported.

Earlier this 2016, Ford created a new business unit called the Ford Smart Mobility LLC. This is part of their move to build new transportation-related services.
