Recall Alert: 2014-2015 Smart Fortwo Vehicles Need New Steering Bolts

The Issue:

Mercedes-Benz is calling back 2014 and 2015 Smart Fortwo models over steering gear mounting bolts that could break over time.

The issue increases the chance of a crash since "vehicle handling could be affected" if one or both of the mounting bolts do break, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documents.

The Fix:

Dealers are being told to replace all steering-gear mounting bolts on affected vehicles, free of charge to customers.

Injuries or Accidents:

No injuries or accidents have been reported to the NHTSA at this time.

Recall Date:

A recall date has not been established yet by Mercedes-Benz, but owners should be on the lookout for their notices in the mail.

5,058- in the U.S.
