Recall Alert: Mercedes-Benz E350 Among 147,000 Vehicles Called Back

Mercedes-Benz is calling back 147,224 vehicles, including the 2013-2015 Mercedes-Benz E350 sedan over fire concerns.

The recall was announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The massive list of vehicles being recalled also includes: 2013-'15 Mercedes-Benz E350 4Matic sedan; E350 4Matic wagon; E400 Hybrid sedan; CLS550 CGI and CLS550 4Matic sedan; 2013-'14 E550 4Matic sedan; 2013 E63 AMG sedan, E63 AMG wagon and CLS63 AMG; 2014-'15 CLS63 AMG 4Matic, E63 AMG 4Matic, E63 AMG 4Matic S sedan and E63 AMG 4Matic wagon; 2015 CLS400; 2015 E400 sedan, E400 4Matic sedan, CLS400 4Matic and 2014 CLS63 S.

"The affected vehicles have a rubber seal at the back of the engine bay that may temporarily stick to the hood when it is opened and then may fall into the engine bay when the hood is closed," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "If the rubber seal falls into the engine compartment, it may contact parts of the exhaust system, increasing the risk of a fire."

Parent company Daimler confirmed to federal safety regulators at NHTSA that during its worldwide product monitoring it "became aware of individual instances of E-Class and CLS-Class vehicles that showed various degrees of damage, consistent with possible fire in the engine compartment area."

The automaker is telling customers that it is still safe to drive their cars until the repair has been completed. Repairs take less than 10 minutes to complete, according to Mercedes-Benz.

Company dealers are being told to attach four additional retaining clips to the rubber seal.

Owners can expect the recall to begin sometime mid-March. While owners are advised to wait until they receive their official recall notice before scheduling their service appointment, if you notice anything wrong with your vehicle don't hesitate to contact your dealer.
