Apple Pay Could Be at Gas Pumps in 2015

Apple Pay could be available at the pump for Chevron gas stations as early as 2015.

Speaking through the company's official Twitter account, a Chevron representative said that the company is working with Apple to implement at-the-pump Apple Pay for greater convenience for customers.

"We are working alongside Apple to develop solutions to integrate with Apple Pay at the pump by early 2015," said the tweet.

As reported by Business Insider, the representative went on to clarify in a second tweet that Chevron is collaborating with Apple Pay but doesn't have a set timeline on when payment at the pump will be available.

Chevron and Texaco already accept Apple Pay in some stores, but they don't yet have the convenience of payment at the pump.

Apple Pay has been growing since it launched about two months ago and made up 1 percent of digital transactions in November, TechCrunch reported via research firm ITG. The digital transfer service allows users to make in-store payments with their iPhone. The recently introduced Apple Watch will implement Apple Pay in early 2015 as well, according to the company website.

The system works through Passbook, which holds boarding passes, tickets, coupons and other items and can now store credit and debit card information.
