Apple has teamed up with (RED), the Global Fund to fight AIDS, for a holiday campaign involving 25 customized apps.

Proceeds from the apps will go directly to the Global Fund, and Apple additionally plans to donate a portion from all sales made on this coming Black Friday and Monday (World AIDS Day), the company has announced.

"Apple is a proud supporter of (RED) because we believe the gift of life is the most important gift anyone can give," Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement. "For eight years, our customers have been helping fight AIDS in Africa by funding life-saving treatments which are having a profoundly positive impact."

While the Cupertino, Calif.-based company has raised $75 million for (RED), Apple wanted to have more in-depth involvement this time around, Apple executive Eddy Cue told USA TODAY.

"This time, it was about getting developers deeply involved," he said. "It couldn't just be veneer."

Apple approached 25 app developers about six months ago for the special project.
