Publisher Electronics Arts (EA) has announced that the popular racing series "Need for Speed" is getting a new addition, "Need for Speed No Limits."

The game, which is being designed specifically for smartphones and tablets, is the next entry in the "Need for Speed" franchise and scheduled to reach iOS and Android devices in "early" 2015.

The game is being created by Firemonkeys, the studio behind the "Real Racing" games on Android, including the popular "Real Racing 3" game.

More details on "Need for Speed No Limits" will be announced over the next couple of months before the game is released, including the game's characters and customization options, Firemonkeys Executive Producer Robert Huebner said this weekend in a blog post.

"The team at Firemonkeys has also been bringing Need for Speed to mobile gamers for years, and it's an honor and a privilege to once again get behind the wheel of this incredible franchise and redefine street racing on mobile," Huebner in his post. "We're constantly amazed by the power and performance we're able to get out of the latest phones and tablets and think you will be too."

A specific release date has not been announced by the company yet.

Some changes fans can expect includes better graphics. On high-end smartphone devices with high-res displays, the new game should outdo most expectations.

"We've built No Limits from the ground up to deliver the insanely-fast driving and incredible graphics that fans have come to expect from Need for Speed - all in the palm of your hand," Huebner wrote in his blog post. "We're constantly amazed by the power and performance we're able to get out of the latest phones and tablets and think you will be too."

To get fans excited, EA has released a teaser trailer for "Need for Speed No Limits" featuring racecar driver Ken Block.

Stay tuned for more coverage as additional information on the game gets announced.
