Whether you're traveling for Thanksgiving or playing host, it's always good to have some games on hand to break the ice with relatives you haven't seen in a while or just to make sure everyone has a way to bond together.

Before you start prepping your turkey or mixing up pies, considering downloading these five family-friendly games to help keep the holiday spirit going.

Heads Up

Famous from "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," Heads Up is a great option when you have a large group. Players take turns holding a smartphone in front of their foreheads to display a word, phrase, famous figure and so on. Everyone else has to act out what's shown on the phone screen to get the person to guess. With a bigger group, you can divide people into two or more teams.

Cost: 99 cents (some of the game categories will be extra)

Would You Choose ...

A virtual edition of "would you rather," this game features five categories that range from thoughtful to bizarre. The app's plot twist is that it lets you both respond and see how other people answered questions like "would you choose to go on a boat ride with six-foot waves or go in a plane in a storm?"

Just Say It!

A Taboo lookalike, Just Say It pits two teams against each other to guess words while avoiding certain terms on a list.

Ticket to Ride

An iPad version of a popular board game, Ticket to Ride is a bit on the pricey side and involves more critical thinking, but those looking for a game that involves strategy and history will enjoy it. Allowing up to five players, this app takes you on a virtual trip across America by train. Players try to outdo one another while building their own railroad empires.

Marble Mixer

Suitable for ages 2 and up, this app takes the classic game of marbles to offer three player modes: "Space Mania," "Table Tactics" and "Monster Picnic." Players use both strategy and skill to knock each other's marbles off the playing field or send them into a "marble-crunching" monster's mouth.
