Why 2018 BMW i8 Roadster Is The ‘Powerful And Unstoppable Icon Of A New Era’ [VIDEO]

The 2018 BMW i8 Roadster has just been announced. The automaker claims the new model is the "powerful and unstoppable icon of a new era."

BMW has just released a teaser video confirming the 2018 launch of the first ever BMW i8 Roadster. The announcement video was posted on the brand's Facebook account and has the captions "Icon of a new era: powerful and unstoppable."

The official announcement also comes with some revelations on the specs of the new vehicle. However, there was also a disclaimer as the description was also labeled as "preliminary."

According to the post, the new i8 Roadster is a plug-in hybrid BMW eDrive. The video highlights this by showing some electric-current-like flowing all over the new sedan. Since the new vehicle has been confirmed to be a plug-in hybrid, driving will be more pleasant with less noise.

The new EV features 15,4 kWh/100 km combined energy consumption. It also claims a combined fuel consumption of 2,0 I/100 km and 45 g/km combined CO2 emissions. Again, these are just preliminary specs and might probably improve when the new Roadster is launched next year.

It is still too early to predict the final design of the new model as the clip introduced the new roadster under heavy wraps. However, it can be spotted that the new sedan features upward opening doors. It seems that the new Roadster is retaining the scissor-style door of its hardtop coupe sibling.

It seems that the new model will be loved because of its sporty design and race car performance capacity. The best part is that the roadster will come with an open top.

Last year, the German brand has already mentioned about the new i8 Roadster. BMW AG chairman of the board of management Harald Kruger said that after the i3 model, "a BMW i8 Roadster in 2018" will follow.

In another report, the new Roadster will be produced with an "I15" codename. It was also speculated to represent the "future of cutting-edge and emotionally appealing mobility concepts."
