2018 BMW 520i And 525d Specs Reveal Four-Cylinder Engine & 6.6-Second Acceleration Rate

The 2018 BMW 520i and 525d models have been added to the 5 Series. The automaker has announced the specs of the upcoming 2018 520i and 525d, boasting of a powerful driving performance.

The new BMW 520i, which is being offered in touring and sedan variants, runs with a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine. The new model's engine can deliver 184 hp and 214 lb-ft of torque. The engine will also be partnered with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The automaker claims that the new BMW 520i sedan can accelerate to 62 mph in just 7.8 seconds. Whereas, the touring variant can hit the same mark in 8.2 seconds.

On the other hand, details for the new BMW 525d have been announced too. The new model sports a 2.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine that can deliver 231 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. It will also be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

In terms of acceleration rate, the new BMW 525d sedan can hit 62 mph in 6.6 seconds only. Whereas, the touring variant will take 6.8 seconds to hit 62mph.

According to the report of Motortrend, the two models will also be offered in new body paint options. Buyers can choose from the special metallic variant or the frozen metallic paint variant.

BMW also announced that the new 520i and 525d will be offered with the brand's xDrive all-wheel drive. The company also offered this option in the 540d and M550d models.

Meanwhile, the new 5 Series has recently earned a Top Safety Pick + award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This is the highest rating that the prestigious organization rewards to deserving vehicles.

According to the test results, the new BMW 5 series gained a superior rating for the "Front Crash Prevention" category. The test results also show an "A" grade for the "Child Seat Anchors Ease of Use" category, while the others gained a "Good" mark.
